My fuel prices
So I finally took the little notebook I keep in my car inside tonight to dump the data I’ve been scribbling down into excel. So far, two lessons learned:
1) I really suck at keeping consistent notes. Miss a tank here, leave off a date here and there, yada yada.
2) Gas is getting more expensive.

My gas purchase history. The first entry is in VA, the others in CA.
Of course, you already knew that. But I thought it was cool to see anyway. I can’t remember where I managed to get that sweet deal in March. Maybe I just wrote it down wrong.
Now on to the MPG examination….

Jeff, regarding your comment on marginalrevolution, accelerating faster is not significantly less efficient than accelerating slowly and can be more efficient. Typical cars can tranfer larger amounts power needed for acceleration more efficiently. This is before considering the effect on traffic. Of course if you follow the car infront of you too closely, you’ll need to brake and will be for not. But you should remain far enough away to make all you adjustment through the accelerator, if the car in front doesn’t need to brake, neither should you. The distance needed for reaction time and braking distance are a function of speed, so most of your spacing out should be done closer to cruising speed.

Dustin, if Jeff is like most people, MPG will be going down.
