On saturday, July 26th, we drove up to Pilanesberg National Park hoping to see some african animals! We arrived at about 10am and spent the rest of the day driving around the park, often hanging out the windows, waiting for a lion to pop up from around the corner. Unfortunately, we didn't ever find a lion (or any other cat), but we did see a lot of other animals, and some really cool places.

The first thing we saw was a group of 4 zebras who were wandering accross the road

I think we ran into this group of 4 zebras several times, unless there are several groups of 4 zebras wandering around.

There were many different types of "Deer Like Things" (DLT's). I'm not exactly sure what you call this particular type. We just called them all DLT's.

This giraffe was standing about 6 feet from the side of the road munching on the tree.

This hippo was just relaxing in the water. He barely moved the whole time we watched him.

Here are some more, equally exciting hippos, laying around on the beach. Hippos really aren't very active animals, apparantly.

Here is a huge termite mound on the side of the road.

We stopped for lunch at a little restaurant in the middle of the park, where we got someone to take this picture. Somehow they managed to run this place with no electricity.

There were a bunch of warthogs just outside the patio where we ate lunch. Apparantly there is something very appetizing in that dirt, because they were working awfully hard to dig it up.
More Pilanesberg pictures are in the second gallery.
